Paul Klassen, (1923 to 1999). He was born in the same year as my father and they led similar, but parallel, lives until 1940 or so. Both were born in South Russia and emigrated as toddlers in 1924 with their families to Canada. Paul's family moved to the Winnipeg area whereas my father's family moved to the Dundurn, Saskatchewan area, both as farming settlers.
In 1939, their paths crossed as my father's family was on route to Ontario to re-settle. In the below photo, Paul and my Dad are standing next to each other in the front. Paul is third from the left and my Dad, also in a suit, is to his left. Both were 16 years-old.
In 1996, Paul published "From the Steppes to the Prairies" via City Press, Winnipeg. This work was an outgrowth of his research into his roots, especially the life of his parents Agneta and David Klassen. The publisher, City Press, generously gave me a copy as it has become next to impossible to locate elsewhere.
