Three of the Rempel kids in transit from South Russia to California. Standing on the left is Arthur and on the right is Frank Rempel. In the carriage are their benefactors, Will and Margaret Neufeld, and sister Evangeline Rempel.

The following is the diary of Evangeline G. Rempel who migrated from Gnadenfeld, Ukraine to Reedley, California in 1922-23.
Evangeline Rempel (1898-1981) was one of the daughters of Gustav Aron Rempel and Elisabeth Dirks (whose father was Heinrich Dirks). Evangeline's father, Gustav, was the manager of the estate, Marienskaja, which was owned by my great grandfather, Heinrich A. Klassen. One her brothers who made the same journey, slightly later, Dietrich, eventually worked at a toy manufacturer in Akron, Ohio. Thirty years after emigrating to the U.S., Dietrich sponsored my uncle Dietrich Klassen and his family to move from Germany in 1953. Uncle Dietrich and wife Alma settled near Akron and had two daughters, Regina and Edith (both born in Germany) and two sons, Henry and Edward (born in Ohio).
